Much of the Redskins-Peyton Manning chatter that I’ve so dutifully been chronicling has concerned this question: Would the Redskins be interested in Peyton Manning. A great many reporters and pundits and random cockroaches to which I’ve attached microphones have agreed: yes, they would.

I guess even though Ted Leonsis has been steadfast that he won’t attempt to profit by marketing visiting stars, the local media is under no such obligation. Still, boo.

Little did I know, when I pledged long ago to transcribe every radio interview I could find on the possibility of Peyton Manning winding up in D.C., that my work would create more work. It has become a self-fulfilling obsession, in which one radio interview transcription actually forces another.

When Mark Turgeon started “Zaching” on Wednesday, I wrote about that flexing pose that pays homage to Terps student manager Zach Lederer, who is battling brain cancer.

In the next 24 hours, long profiles of Lederer came out in The Diamondback and on NBC 4, and the thing kept growing.

Wizards fans have spent the past few weeks arguing which of the team’s pieces are potential building blocks for the future, besides the piece that got drafted No. 1 overall and was labeled the Game Changer before he had changed a single game.

Earlier this week, Bryce Harper gave a candid interview to MLB.com’s Bill Ladson, in which he candidly suggested he might want to have a lifestyle like that of Joe Namath. Much credit for the historical knowledge. But still, an interesting choice. Quoting from Ladson:

If I’m going to quote everyone else speculating about a possible marriage between Peyton Manning and Mike Shanahan, might as well quote them talking about each other.

Here, via the Denver Post almost exactly three years ago, is Manning on Shanahan:

Knicks, Wizards, wicked pixels, blah blah blah. You don’t really care about the game. You care about seeing a pair of third-quarter dunks in which Jeremy Lin and John Wall sort of dunked in the general vicinity of each other. First came Wall’s dunk, which is above. Then came Lin’s dunk, which is below. Got awfully loud after that dunk for a road arena.

Since I’m quoting everyone else on Peyton Manning and the Redskins, might as well quote Joe Gibbs on Peyton Manning and the Redskins.

Much of these comments — which came last week on Mike Wise’s radio show — already appeared in The Post via a Mike Wise column.

Maryland student basketball manager Zach Lederer has gotten a fair bit of attention in recent days for his flexed-arm pose, meant to signify his fight against brain cancer.

After Patch.com did a lengthy story about Lederer’s battle, the story was picked up by Huffington Post and SB Nation DC, among others, in each case illustrated by an iconic shot of Lederer in his hospital bed, flexing at the world.

The Wizards Web site is holding a contest, asking fans to identify players by their sneakers. Go here to enter. The prize involves shoes.

In other Wizards news, the team seems to be very interested in sugary breakfast cereals.

Now that those pesky games are all out of the way, this Peyton Manning Redskins rumors stuff will really take off. Wednesday’s big hit came courtesy CBS Sports’s Mike Freeman, who wrote this:

Speaking of Peyton, everyone I speak to in the NFL — and I mean just about everyone — believes if Manning becomes a free agent, the Washington Redskins will sign him.

Earlier this week, I called the then-anonymous Wizards fan who showed up to Verizon Center in a “Baltche” jersey an American hero.

Well, that man now has a name, and a story.

I keep doing this even though nothing ever changes. No team moved more than one spot since last week. Virginia never passes Georgetown. Loyola can never get higher than No. 8. Richmond can drop to .500 and remain in the rankings.

Huge win for the Caps on Tuesday night, as they clobbered Florida, got an old-school Alex Ovechkin performance, moved back into their rightful place atop the Southeast Division, and saw some Capitals swag show up on FX’s popular drama, “Justified.”

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but it’s time for an update. With the Giants winning the Super Bowl, that means the past 12 NFL champs have a combined 52 regular-season losses. And, remarkably, a full 11.5 percent of those losses — six games in all — came at the hands of the Washington Redskins, one of the stinkiest NFL teams of the past 12 years.
